Amarnath is located in one of the world’s most incredible landscapes of Lidder Valley in Kashmir. Amarnath, a holy cave dedicated to Lord Shiva, situated at an altitude of 3888 meter is an integral part of ancient Hindu mythology. This cave is believed to be 5,000 years old and it was here that the Lord Shiva explained the secrets of life to his beloved wife Parvati. The dimensions of this cave are 60 ft. in length, 15 ft. in height and 30 ft. in width. Flanked by breathtaking snow-clad peaks, this Shiva shrine provides a wonderful opportunity to soak in the sacred energies of the Himalayas.

Every year in the month of Shravan (July-August) when the moon is full, the shrine witnesses thousands of pilgrims from all over the world throng this place to worship a naturally formed ice Lingam, symbol of Lord Shiva.

The cave is under close surveillance of the CRPF and Indian Paramilitary Forces. In order to have a holy voyage to the Amarnath temple, tourists need to get prior permission from the authorities.
