Shantiniketan is a small town near Bolpur in the Birbhum district of West Bengal, India. Shantiniketan is renowned for the Viswa Bharati University which was founded by the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in 1921. This is the place where Rabindranath Tagore wrote many of his literary classics and his house has become a place of historical importance that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
There are many famous social and cultural events which have been taking place throughout the year which include Basanta Utsav, Barsha Mangal, Sharodutsav, Nandan Mela, Poush Mela, Magh Mela, Rabindra Jayanti to name a few. The Poush Mela is a major tourist attraction which is a 3-day fair where artisans, folk singers, dancers showcase their talent and skills which attracts thousands of tourists.
